Staff Accountant – Merchant Cash Advance (Remote)

Remote

Our client provides comprehensive accounting and strategic financial services to startups. They help founders navigate the complexities of company building through all stages of the journey: raising capital, building business models, operationalizing for scale, and achieving successful exits.

They are seeking a Staff Accountant with 5+ years of accounting experience to join their team and support a portfolio of Merchant Cash Advance (MCA) funder clients. This position offers a flexible working environment.

Responsibilities

Month-End Close

  • Own the monthly close for a group of MCA funder clients, from reconciliations through draft financials.
  • Record and true up factor income, deferred revenue, and receivable-to-be-repaid (RTR) balances under each client's revenue recognition method.
  • Calculate and book loss reserves, write-offs, recoveries, and settlement adjustments.
  • Accrue and reconcile ISO and broker commissions, including clawbacks on early defaults.
  • Account for syndication and participant activity, including allocations of collections, fees, and losses.
  • Prepare clearly documented close workpapers that hold up under senior review.

Reconciliation

  • Reconcile the servicing or CRM platform (e.g., LendSaaS, Cloudsquare, Centrex, or similar) to the general ledger every month, deal by deal where needed.
  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations across funding, collection, and operating accounts.
  • Reconcile ACH remittances, payment processor settlements, and split-funded receipts to expected payment schedules.
  • Track and resolve NSFs, returned ACH, bounced payments, and payment exceptions.
  • Tie out renewals and refinances, including payoff of prior balances netted against new fundings.

Operations

  • Support daily cash positioning and funding activity, confirming that disbursements match approved deal terms.
  • Maintain portfolio tracking on performance, delinquency, defaults, and collections status.
  • Prepare syndicator statements, investor reporting, and portfolio performance reports.
  • Support borrowing base calculations and covenant tracking for clients with credit facilities.
  • Identify process gaps in client operations and help document and improve workflows.
  • Handle routine client communication directly, with senior team backup for anything complex.

Qualifications

  • Required: At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Merchant Cash Advance accounting or operations, at a funder, servicer, syndicator, or an accounting firm serving MCA clients.
  • 5+ years of total accounting experience.
  • A working understanding of MCA mechanics: factor rates, holdbacks, RTR, daily and weekly remittances, renewals, stacking, and defaults.
  • Proven experience running high-volume reconciliations between a servicing platform, bank activity, and the general ledger.
  • Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and large-dataset reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online; experience with MCA servicing software is a strong plus.
  • A track record of owning your close deliverables, and the judgment to know when to escalate versus when to figure it out yourself.
  • Professional, clear writing and the confidence to sit in on client calls.
  • Working toward a CPA is a nice-to-have, not a dealbreaker.

What's in It for You

  • Competitive base pay with a clear path toward more senior, client-facing responsibility.
  • Exposure to a range of MCA funders, syndication structures, and credit facility work, not just one company's book.
  • Guidance from a senior team that believes in documenting processes, not burning out employees.
  • A flexible working environment with the ability to work remotely.
