Residential Property Controller for Real Estate Management and Development Company needed in New York

Our client, a New York real estate developer, owner and property manager is searching for a Residential Property Controller for their property management division. They have over 100 years of experience constructing and developing high quality mixed-use buildings throughout New York.   The Residential Property Controller will oversee the property accounting team and be the lead contact for banking relationships including operating, security, reserve, and lockbox accounts in addition to various other duties.  Extensive Yardi experience is a must.

 

The Residential Property Controller must have the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting/finance or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in an Residential accounting role
  • CPA preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of Yardi software required
  • Prior supervisory experience required
  • Proficient working knowledge of MS Excel
  • Strong communication skills

The Residential Property Controller will have the following roles and responsibilities to: 

  • Maintain and administer internal controls for the property management company’s accounting team
  • Oversee the accounting team consisting of two senior property accountants (2),one staff accountant (1),  three accounts receivable (3) and two accounts payable (2) specialists
  • Perform monthly closing of books and records; which includes overseeing reconciliation of operating and tenant security bank accounts
  • Analyze and reconcile ledger accounts for portfolio
  • Work closely with asset management in creating cashflow projections
  • Administer and record debt service payments
  • Monitor and record payment of property taxes
  • Analyze and record activity of mortgage escrows and reserve accounts
  • Record year-end journal entries and compile audit and tax work-papers to facilitate preparation of audited financial statements and tax returns
  • Facilitate various property tax compliance matters; i.e. filings for annual certiorari applications, NYC RPIE’s forms, and tax petitions
  • Participate in the preparation of annual operating budgets
  • Prepare interim operating statements for partner and mortgagee reporting

 

The company offers an excellent salary and benefits package.  Salary $160K-$180K, full time permanent position
